MgF2

Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2 crystal) is used for optical elements where extreme ruggedness and durability is required. Its useful transmission range is 0.11 μm - 8.5 μm. MgF2 single crystals is a positive crystal and slightly birefringent and usually supplied with the optic axis cut perpendicular to the window faces.

MgF2 crystal has the following exceptional properties:
  (1) High optical transmittance from the vacuum ultraviolet to the infrared spectrum region (0.118.5μm).
  (2) Resistant to mechanical and thermal shock, to radiation.
  (3) Chemically stable.
  (4) Used for Optical prisms, lenses, wedges, windows, other optical components and etc.
  (5) A positive birefringent crystal, used for optical fiber communication
